KARACHI, – Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), organized its 27th Convocation with a traditional zeal that was attended by a large number of educationists, scholars, dignitaries including faculty and students. Governor Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Kamran Tessori was the Chief Guest of the event. Sir Syed University awarded 1,117 Bachelor’s, 60 Master’s, and 1 PhD degree. Position holders were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals for securing the highest marks in the respective disciplines.
Addressing the convocation, Governor Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Kamran Tessori said that Sir Syed University is an ideological academic institute that serves as an institution of inspiration playing a vital role and contributing towards national development and also providing a capable workforce internationally. University also acts as a catalytic agent for social change and the progress of society. Sir Syed University has equipped graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their professional endeavors and make a positive impact on society. Sir Syed University is not just limited to academic excellence but also works towards the betterment of society.
Governor Kamran Tessori said that we are going to give non-refundable loans of one lakh to one crore to the youth who come up with new ideas or unique business plans. At Governor House, around 50,000 students are getting free information technology education in different trades and after completing a one-year diploma in IT, they will be able to earn 15 lakh to 20 lakh rupees per month. It will open new vistas of business and employment opportunities. We have decided to make Sindh to be recognized as IT Province.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Chancellor SSUET, Jawaid Anwar said that even in the period of recession, a large number of students preferred to enroll in Sir Syed University, which is itself proof of the remarkable performance of our university. Due to the hard work and exemplary performance of the faculty and management, Sir Syed University has become the top priority for the new students. It is an era of technology. Young graduates are moving towards entrepreneurship. Students are working on new ideas, on new products. New business opportunities are being created and youth are being given priority in employment who can play an effective role in increasing the efficiency, production, and profitability of the enterprises.
He said that digital technology has become a necessity for us in the 21st century and the growth of digital technology has a profound impact on human society. Significant changes are being noticed in societies under the influence of digital technology. Now the trend has entirely changed and apart from getting a degree, students are approaching software-based digital applications. In pursuit of the contemporary demand, Sir Syed University has launched two new programs Data Science and Cyber Security Network. A new degree based on Business and IT subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing will also be introduced. Being aware of the present challenges, we are going to inaugurate the Cyber Security Center of Excellence at Sir Syed University very soon.
Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said that in view of the economic crisis and taking into account the sufferings of the employees of Sir Syed University, we are revising the salary scale.
Presenting SSUET’s annual report for the year 2023-24, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, said that Sir Syed University has now grown to 16 academic departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate, MS, and PhD programs with more than 7,000 students and around 350 faculty members, including 64 holding PhDs. The Department of Applied Computing & Emerging Sciences has been formed under which various programs relevant to new emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, etc. will be launched.
He said that the university has secured the Brand of the Year Award for the last 3 consecutive years from Brands Foundation in the category of Best Engineering, Science and Technology Institute, which shows the university’s tremendous progress in multiple directions. Sir Syed University achieved a place in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking and EU-funded projects facilitated the university in becoming an SDG-based university. The university actively participated in Erasmus+ ICM programs, fostering collaborations with renowned European universities and developing collaborations with international partners such as Politehnica University of Bucharest and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca in ongoing projects. French, Russian, and South Korean delegations visited Sir Syed University to explore options for potential collaboration and partnership. SSUET delegation visited Romania and Italy to attend meetings of the partners of the European Union-funded “ACTIVE” project. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that the University awarded merit-based scholarships worth approximately 35 million rupees to 1,318 deserving students. In order to enhance academic excellence and diversify research efforts by exchanging knowledge and skills, the University has signed 102 MOUs to date. The University also signed MoUs with Kyungdong University, South Korea, Pokhara University, Nepal, and the University of Malaga, Spain. During the years 2023-2024, the SSUET faculty has published 175 research papers in various national and international journals.

(r) Syed Sarfraz Ali while conducting the event said that the vision for Sir Syed University is to transform it into a center of academic excellence and make it a world-class institution. Our mission is to develop and nurture excellent professionals who can contribute to the betterment of our society and the world at large.
Students were also honored with gold, silver, and bronze medals including merit certificates for their outstanding achievements in their academic career. Anab Ali (Biomedical Engineering), Amina Siddiqui (Biomedical Science), Ayesha Khan (Computer Engineering), Malik Tanzeel (Electrical Engineering), Syed Muhammad Abdur Rahman un Nabi (Electronic Engineering), Ilma Ameen (Computer Science), Muneeb Ahmed Khan (Information Technology), Ramna Nadeem (Software Engineering), Taikhoom (Civil Engineering), Syed Muhammad Jibran Jilani (Civil Engineering Technology), Sehrish Jawaid (Architecture) and Hafsa Tariq (Business Administration) received gold medals for securing 1st position.
Recipients of silver medals for securing second position included Kinza Imran (Biomedical Engineering), Syeda Aiman Zehra (Biomedical Science), Ismail Zaheer Sheikh (Computer Engineering), Umer Farooq (Electrical Engineering), Sawera (Electronic Engineering), Wania Khan (Computer Science), Asma Shafi ((Information Technology), Unsa Athar (Software Engineering), Muhammad Daniyal (Civil Engineering), Shaikh Muhammad Faizan (Civil Engineering Technology), Nida Tasneem (Architecture) and Asbah Abid (Business Administration), while Nabeeha Sahar (Biomedical Engineering), Faha Noman Siddiqui (Biomedical Science), Neha Shakil (Computer Engineering), Umer Zaid (Electrical Engineering), Talha Mustafa (Electronic Engineering), Hanzala Bin Rashid (Computer Science), Kainat Jamil ((Information Technology), Mukadus Jawaid (Software Engineering), Choudhary Muhammad Hazimullah (Civil Engineering), Saifullah (Civil Engineering Technology) and Muhammad Mashood Chohan (Architecture) were awarded bronze medals for standing 3rd position.
In the end, students of Sir Syed University presented Tarana e Aligarh with live music.
