ECP Announces Senate By-Election Schedule for Vacant KP Seat

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the schedule for a Senate by-election on a vacant general seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the official notification, the seat became vacant following the disqualification of Murad Saeed. The by-election process will now proceed under constitutional provisions and the Elections Act, 2017.

The schedule outlines that the returning officer will issue a public notice on April 3, inviting nomination papers. Candidates can submit their nomination papers on April 6 and 7, while the list of candidates will be published on April 8.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be completed by April 10. Candidates will have the opportunity to file appeals against acceptance or rejection of their papers by April 13, with decisions on appeals expected by April 15.

A revised list of candidates will be issued on April 16, and the final date for withdrawal of candidature is set for April 17.

Polling for the Senate seat will take place on April 23 at the provincial assembly building in Peshawar. Voting will be conducted from 9am to 4pm, with members of the provincial assembly forming the electoral college.

The announcement officially begins the process of electing a new senator, ensuring representation for the vacant seat in the upper house of parliament.
