Sargodha: Yield of various crops are being reduced largely due to unaffordable and spurious fertilizers. District administration has failed to control the prices and quality of fertilizers. Reported, the yield of main crops per acre has particularly reduced from 40 to 60%. Sargodha is specifically an Agriculture land and more than 10.71 lac acre is being cultivated out of 14.70 lac of total land. The main crops of it are rice, wheat cotton, citrus and sugarcane. Presently, wheat is becoming ripened and the stalks are empty or containing grain whereas several wheat fields has been destroyed due to poor nourishment. This year the cotton crop was also below target due to sub standard fertilizers owing to loss of farmers. Paddy field could also not produce production according to expectation due to less infertility. The major cause is unaffordable prices of spurious fertilizers. If administration and Agri department do not pay heed towards the facts, farmers would go other way to earn their livelihood and to avert their loss. Under such state, the district could not be able to contribute in country’s GDP.
