A highly wanted terror suspect has been arrested during an intelligence-based operation in Karachi, security officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to authorities, the suspect has been identified as Dost Muhammad, a resident of Bajaur, who was wanted in connection with a terrorist attack carried out in November 2020. The attack reportedly took place in Nawagai, where armed assailants opened fire and set government machinery ablaze, targeting the office of a local assistant commissioner.
The arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by the Sindh Rangers and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after receiving credible intelligence about the suspect’s presence in the city. The raid was carried out in the Chakragoth/Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi.
Officials said a case had already been registered against the suspect under serious terrorism charges with the CTD Malakand Region. Following the 2020 attack, Dost Muhammad allegedly went into hiding and relocated to Karachi to evade arrest.
Security sources revealed that the arrested militant was allegedly planning further attacks on sensitive locations in Karachi with the assistance of accomplices. Authorities believe the operation has prevented a major security threat.
After his arrest, the suspect was handed over to law enforcement authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further investigation and legal proceedings. Additional raids are ongoing to apprehend other members linked to the network.
In a related development, a joint operation by the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and CTD also led to the arrest of three alleged facilitators linked to Fitna-e-Hindustan in Karachi’s Korangi area earlier this week. Officials said those suspects were also planning attacks on sensitive locations in the city.
