Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia Call for ‘Maximum Restraint’ as Middle East Crisis Escalates

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, held high-level diplomatic discussions with Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia, and Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, to address the escalating crisis in the Middle East.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan, the leaders agreed to jointly urge all parties involved in the conflict to exercise maximum restraint and pursue peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomacy. The discussions took place during separate telephone conversations between the leaders as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to help reduce tensions in the region.

During his conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East. He strongly condemned recent attacks carried out by Israel against Iran, as well as subsequent retaliatory attacks that affected several Gulf states.

The Pakistani prime minister also briefed the Indonesian leader about Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with Gulf countries aimed at preventing further escalation and restoring stability in the region. Both leaders emphasized that long-term peace could only be achieved through constructive dialogue and diplomatic negotiations rather than military confrontation.

The situation in the Middle East has intensified significantly following airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel, which targeted key Iranian leadership figures. In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against US military bases located in various Gulf countries, widening the scope of the conflict.

These developments have caused major disruptions across the region, including temporary closures of airports, interruptions in port operations, and instability in financial markets. Cities like Dubai, known for their economic stability and international business environment, have also felt the impact of the regional crisis.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, where both leaders reiterated the importance of restoring peace and stability. They stressed that respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter is essential to preventing further escalation.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, held diplomatic discussions with the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand regarding the ongoing regional tensions.

During these talks, Ishaq Dar emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation, highlighting that dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law remain the most effective paths to achieving peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.

Pakistan continues to play an active diplomatic role in encouraging restraint and peaceful negotiations to prevent the conflict from expanding further and to safeguard regional stability.
