Pakistan’s leadership has strongly condemned Islamophobia and called for greater global efforts to promote peace, tolerance, and interfaith harmony.
On the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered important messages emphasizing the need to address discrimination and prejudice against Muslims worldwide.
President Zardari stated that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace and that linking it with extremism or terrorism is based on ignorance and misunderstanding.
He highlighted the importance of global cooperation to eliminate hatred, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslims.
The president also stressed the need to strengthen international laws against hate crimes while ensuring that freedom of expression is not misused to promote hatred or discrimination.
Zardari reiterated that Pakistan has consistently raised its voice against Islamophobia on international platforms and remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of Muslims around the world.
He also acknowledged the contributions made by Pakistani communities living abroad, who play a significant role in the development and progress of many countries.
Referring to tragic incidents such as the Christchurch mosque attacks, President Zardari described them as painful reminders of the dangers of intolerance and religious hatred.
He emphasized that Pakistan is dedicated to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, including minority communities within the country.
The president also mentioned the implementation of the National Commission for Minorities Rights Act 2025, which aims to establish an independent body responsible for safeguarding the rights of minority groups.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the significance of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, describing it as a global reminder to reject prejudice against Islam and Muslims.
The prime minister stated that Islam promotes peace, compassion, and harmony among all people, regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds.
He warned that Islamophobia threatens social harmony, religious freedom, and the values of mutual respect in societies.
Sharif emphasized that modern and civilized societies must ensure equal human rights for all individuals without discrimination based on religion.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting Islamophobia at every level and promoting religious tolerance both domestically and internationally.
Both leaders stressed that the international community has a shared responsibility to respect religious beliefs and guarantee equal rights to all citizens under the law.
