PML-N Government Unlikely to Engage in Talks with PTI

Sources Reveal

PMLN PTI dialogue

Islamabad, December 14, 2024 – Amid rising political tensions, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has shown little interest in holding talks with the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), according to sources within the ruling party.

Despite repeated calls for dialogue from various quarters, including some political analysts and international observers, the PML-N leadership seems firm on its stance of not engaging with PTI under the current circumstances. The government maintains that PTI’s actions in the past, particularly the party’s role in the political upheaval following the 2022 general elections and the subsequent unrest, have damaged trust.

A senior PML-N leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “The situation today is a result of PTI’s own doing. They need to show sincerity before any meaningful dialogue can take place.”

PTI, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has consistently criticized the PML-N government, accusing it of corruption, mismanagement, and failing to address the economic challenges facing the country. PTI has also repeatedly urged for an early general election, alleging that the current government lacks legitimacy.

However, political analysts suggest that the refusal to engage could further escalate tensions, leading to more instability within the country. “Political dialogue is the only way forward,” said political analyst Dr. Raza Ali, adding that prolonged deadlock could harm Pakistan’s democratic process.

While the government seems focused on addressing the nation’s economic issues, the political impasse with PTI is likely to persist unless both sides find a way to lower tensions and initiate a constructive dialogue.

The situation remains fluid, and observers will be watching closely to see if any change in approach occurs in the coming months.
