A modern example of discrimination might occur if a male employer were to pay a female employee lower wages due to his own sexism. However, my analysis says discrimination can also consist of more subtle, passive-aggressive behavior, such as dirty looks, or refusing to patronize a business because the owners or managers are of a certain race, gender, or religion. Racial prejudice; consists of two components; which are Old fashioned racism and Aversion racism. Old fashioned racism is racism that is whereby an individual is openly and obviously obtains negative and discriminating stereotypes of another individual or group based on their racial classification of association. discrimination refers to behaviors directed against another group. Being prejudiced usually means having preconceived beliefs about groups of people or cultural practices. The ultimate goal of those who study prejudice is to find ways to promote intergroup harmony and encourage people to treat others based on individual characteristics and not group membership. According to my research, Social psychologists have uncovered some potential routes to prejudice reduction. For example, forming friendships with people from another social group is strongly related to positive attitudes toward that group. Also, getting people to reframe their views of “us” and “them” into “we” can decrease prejudice. Although progress has been made, much remains to be understood about the elimination of prejudice. In my opinion, the world that we live in today, although improving, is tainted with cruelty and hatred toward different races. Usually, we have stereotypes about people who are members of groups with which we have not had the first-hand contact. Unfortunately due to our past history, discrimination had been among us for decades. Discrimination and prejudice would probably be among us until the end of the world. Prejudice is often confused for discrimination, or with forms of oppression such as racism and sexism. While discrimination and oppression characterize behavior by powerful groups directed toward the less powerful, anyone can be prejudiced. Prejudice can color the way we see other people. In the modern world, there is a direct link between prejudice and discrimination. Prejudice is defined as the unjustified negative attitudes that some people hold against others of a certain group of people. Prejudice can include attitudes such as sexism, racism, homophobia, and religious persecution. Prejudices are pre-formed and have no reasonable basis. Discrimination includes all of the actions that people take against others they have prejudices toward. The segregation of blacks and whites during the American Civil Rights Movement is an example of discrimination.
