The Punjab government has urged the federal authorities to introduce clear policies and procedures to facilitate beef exports, highlighting the need to align national agriculture strategies with provincial priorities.
The matter was discussed during a key meeting between Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah revealed that meat and produce from approximately 300,000 livestock in Punjab meet international health and quality standards, making them ready for export. However, he stressed the need for clarity in export procedures to move the process forward efficiently.
The Punjab government also highlighted its ongoing efforts to support the agriculture sector, including subsidies for tractors and modern farming equipment. The minister emphasized that provincial governments should be actively involved in shaping future agricultural and export policies.
On the federal side, Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the government, under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif, is committed to strengthening agriculture and livestock sectors to boost exports and economic growth.
He shared that a comprehensive national meat policy has already been prepared to enhance exports and strengthen Pakistan’s economy. Additionally, the Ministry of Industries plans to introduce a National Tractor Policy aimed at improving mechanisation, promoting local manufacturing, and supporting farmers.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of coordination between federal and provincial governments to ensure effective policy implementation. Punjab’s call reflects a growing push for streamlined export systems and stronger collaboration to maximise the country’s agricultural potential.
