The Crescent Moon of Ramadan 2026 Sighted in Pakistan

The crescent moon of Ramadan has officially been sighted in Pakistan, marking the beginning of the holy month. The first fast (Roza) will be observed on February 19, following the confirmation by religious authorities. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is expected to formally announce the commencement of Ramadan shortly.

The announcement has brought spiritual excitement and preparations across the country as Muslims get ready to observe fasting, prayers, and increased acts of worship during this sacred month.


Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meeting in Peshawar

The moon sighting meeting was held in Peshawar under the leadership of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. The session included senior officials and representatives from various government institutions to ensure accurate verification of moon sighting reports.

Among those present were:

  • Director General, Ministry of Religious Affairs Hafiz Abdul Qudoos

  • Representatives from SUPARCO

  • Officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department

  • Members from the Ministry of Science and Technology

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees were also convened in Islamabad and other provincial capitals. These committees gathered and verified moon sighting testimonies from different regions of the country.


Moon Sighting Testimonies Received

According to Mufti Ateeq-ur-Rehman, a member of the central committee, the first testimonies regarding the crescent moon were received from Upper Dir. Additional reports were received from Mohmand district.

In total, the central committee received around 40 testimonies from across Pakistan, which were carefully reviewed before confirming the sighting.

Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad urged the public to participate in moon sighting and expressed hope that Ramadan would begin on the same day across the entire country.


Ramadan Begins Across Neighboring Countries

The crescent moon has also been sighted in neighboring countries including Bangladesh and India. As a result, Muslims in these countries will also observe their first fast on February 19.

The start of Ramadan brings unity among Muslim communities worldwide, as millions prepare for fasting, Taraweeh prayers, charity, and spiritual reflection.
