At least six militants were killed during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in the Lachi area of Kohat on Sunday.
According to officials, the operation was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of armed militants hiding in the area.
Security forces quickly moved to surround the suspected location before initiating the operation to prevent the militants from escaping.
During the raid, an exchange of gunfire took place between the militants and law enforcement personnel.
As a result of the encounter, six militants were killed at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the bodies of the slain suspects.
District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi stated that the operation was conducted in close coordination between the Counter Terrorism Department and the police.
Following the operation, the area was immediately cordoned off to ensure the safety of local residents and prevent any escape routes for potential suspects.
Security teams also launched a comprehensive search operation in nearby areas to ensure that no other militants were hiding in the vicinity.
Officials described the action as part of ongoing intelligence-based operations aimed at dismantling militant networks operating in the region.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a rise in militant incidents in recent months, prompting authorities to increase security operations and surveillance.
The latest operation comes shortly after a deadly incident in the Bettani tribal area of Lakki Marwat, where a blast targeting a police vehicle resulted in the deaths of seven police personnel.
That attack raised serious concerns about security in the province and led authorities to intensify counterterrorism efforts.
Pakistan has been facing a surge in militant activities, particularly in border regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share long and porous borders with Afghanistan.
Officials believe militants often exploit these cross-border routes to carry out attacks and then retreat to safe havens.
Law enforcement agencies say intelligence-based operations will continue in order to eliminate militant threats and ensure peace and stability in the region.
