A low-level flood has been reported in the Ravi River near Kamalia after water levels rose significantly at the Mil Fatyana point. Authorities have intensified monitoring and emergency preparedness measures as approximately 50,000 cusecs of water continue flowing downstream.
According to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Irrigation, officials are closely monitoring river conditions to detect any further increase in water levels and ensure timely action if the flood situation worsens.
The district administration has established flood relief camps in vulnerable areas, including Mil Fatyana, Kot Pathana, Adda Kalaira, Mauza Tara, Haveli Mai Safuran, Kot Karam Shah, and Dedi. These camps are equipped to provide temporary shelter, food, and emergency assistance if evacuations become necessary.
To improve flood management, the Punjab government has also introduced drone-based flood monitoring for the first time. The technology enables real-time surveillance of rivers, helping authorities identify vulnerable areas, monitor water flow, and issue early flood warnings.
The rising water has already submerged standing crops in Mil Fatyana, Khan Da Chak, Jhalar Sigla, Shahabal Shah, Basti Peepal Wala, and Mauza Darsana, raising concerns about agricultural losses and the financial impact on local farmers.
The Irrigation Department has advised residents living near the river to remain alert, cooperate with local authorities, and move to safer locations if necessary. Rescue teams and emergency services remain on standby as round-the-clock monitoring of the Ravi River continues.
