At least nine police officers were killed in a deadly terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Balochistan’s Ziarat district, after heavily armed militants launched a coordinated assault on security personnel stationed in the Mangi Phase III area.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Ziarat, the attackers targeted the checkpost during the night, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire that continued for several hours. Following the attack, the bodies of the martyred police personnel were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Ziarat.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdul Quddus confirmed that the victims included two Station House Officers (SHOs), underscoring the scale and seriousness of the assault. Police officials said security personnel fought back during the prolonged firefight before the militants managed to flee the area.
In response, authorities deployed additional police and security forces to strengthen security in the region. Law enforcement agencies have launched a large-scale search and clearance operation to locate and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The incident highlights the continuing security challenges in Balochistan, where militant groups have repeatedly targeted police, security forces, and public installations in recent years. Officials have vowed to continue counterterrorism operations until the attackers are brought to justice and peace is restored in the affected areas.
Security officials have reiterated their commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens despite the persistent threats faced by law enforcement personnel across the province.
