Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the country’s independence was more than the creation of a separate homeland, describing it as a promise of rights, dignity and a better future for its people.
In an Independence Day video message, Bilawal noted that Pakistan has completed 79 years of independence and will celebrate its centenary in 2047. He said the present generation has a responsibility to ensure that the constitutional guarantees and principles associated with Pakistan’s founding vision reach every household by the time the country completes 100 years.
Bilawal argued that independence should not be viewed solely in terms of geographical sovereignty. According to him, the creation of Pakistan represented a broader commitment to the people and regions that became part of the country in 1947.
He said this commitment was later reflected in Pakistan’s Constitution and has been reaffirmed over the years. The PPP chairman stressed that constitutional promises should translate into meaningful rights and opportunities for ordinary citizens rather than remain limited to speeches or documents.
Bilawal also highlighted the role of younger generations in shaping Pakistan’s future. With 2047 approaching, he called on the current generation to work toward ensuring that principles of justice, rights and dignity become a reality for citizens across the country.
His remarks came as Pakistan celebrated its 79th Independence Day on August 14 with flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic events and celebrations across the country.
Bilawal emphasised the connection between national freedom and citizens’ fundamental rights, suggesting that the true meaning of independence also depends on whether people are able to enjoy those rights in their everyday lives.
He further called for collective efforts to fulfil the aspirations associated with the creation of Pakistan and expressed hope for the country’s continued progress, prosperity and stability.
Concluding his message, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed his commitment to Pakistan with the slogan “Pakistan Khappay, Pakistan Paindabad.”
As Pakistan looks ahead to its centenary in 2047, Bilawal’s message focused on transforming the ideals of independence into tangible rights, justice and opportunities for every Pakistani.
