ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a special drainage operation across Islamabad following rainfall, putting relevant departments on high alert to deal with accumulated rainwater and maintain uninterrupted traffic flow.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf directed authorities to ensure an immediate response to water accumulation and rain-related emergencies across the federal capital.
Sohail Ashraf visited several rain-affected areas alongside Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon to assess the situation on the ground. During the inspection, he reviewed drainage arrangements on major roads, low-lying areas, underpasses, interchanges and highways.
CDA deploys teams across Islamabad
The chairman directed the CDA, Emergency and Disaster Management, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad and district administration to maintain a strong presence in the field throughout the rainfall.
Special teams have been deployed at vulnerable locations, including Sector E-11, while dewatering equipment and other machinery have been positioned at underpasses and other critical points.
Officials briefed the chairman that sensitive locations, major roads, underpasses and interchanges were being monitored continuously.
Ashraf instructed officers to ensure that drainage work was carried out without delay and warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
Garbage and drainage blockages targeted
The CDA chairman also ordered the immediate removal of garbage, debris and other obstructions blocking drains and water channels.
He stressed that protecting citizens, maintaining traffic movement and ensuring the rapid removal of rainwater were among the administration’s main responsibilities.
CDA and district administration teams are continuing clean-up, drainage and rehabilitation operations simultaneously across the capital. Authorities have also been instructed to respond promptly to complaints and emergencies reported by residents.
Citizens advised to avoid unnecessary travel
The administration has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and stay away from low-lying areas, underpasses and locations where water has accumulated.
Residents have also been urged to follow official safety instructions and remain indoors during severe weather conditions where possible.
