KARACHI: At least 603 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents across Karachi this year, according to data released by Rescue authorities, highlighting the city’s continuing road safety challenges.
Rescue officials reported that 7,467 people were injured in traffic accidents during the year. The victims included men, women and children from different parts of the city.
Of the 603 fatalities, 463 were men, 73 were women and 67 were children. The figures highlight the serious impact of road crashes on Karachi’s residents.
Heavy Vehicles Account for 184 Deaths
Heavy vehicles were involved in a significant number of fatal accidents. According to Rescue data, 184 people were killed in accidents involving heavy vehicles during the year.
Trailer-related crashes accounted for the highest number of deaths among the listed heavy vehicles, claiming 84 lives.
Water tankers were involved in accidents that resulted in 46 deaths, while 24 people were killed in bus-related accidents.
Meanwhile, accidents involving mini-trucks claimed 18 lives, while 12 people died after being hit by dumpers.
Thousands Injured in Road Crashes
The number of people injured in traffic accidents was also substantial.
Of the 7,467 injured people, Rescue officials said:
- 5,649 were men
- 1,322 were women
- 496 were children
The figures demonstrate that road accidents continue to pose a major threat to people travelling across Karachi.
The high number of deaths and injuries has renewed concerns over traffic management, enforcement of road safety regulations and the movement of heavy vehicles on the city’s roads.
Karachi’s busy roads and increasing traffic volume, combined with the presence of heavy vehicles, have contributed to repeated serious crashes. The latest figures underline the need for stronger road safety measures and better traffic management to reduce fatalities.
