PHC Told Security Force Deployed to Protect Travellers on Kurram Main Road

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has been informed that a special Road Protection Force has been established to ensure the safety of travellers on the main road in Kurram district, particularly the Thall-Parachinar Road.

During the hearing, officials revealed that the newly formed force consists of approximately 885 former servicemen, 200 police personnel, and 10 contingents of the Federal Constabulary. The initiative aims to improve security conditions and facilitate safe travel in the region.

The court, while reviewing the situation, directed authorities to submit updated reports on the law and order conditions before the next hearing scheduled for June 9. It also asked the provincial government to present detailed measures taken to restore peace and stability in the area.

The case was heard in response to a petition seeking restoration of normal life in Kurram, including reopening of roads, ensuring transport services, and improving access to basic necessities such as food, healthcare, and education.

According to officials, the overall security situation in Kurram has shown improvement after a period of unrest caused by sectarian clashes. However, certain sections of the Thall-Parachinar Road, particularly near Sadda Bypass, remain closed due to ongoing security concerns.

Authorities informed the court that most parts of the road are now operational, while efforts are underway to fully restore traffic flow in remaining areas. Stakeholder meetings have also been conducted to address security challenges and ensure safe passage for commuters.

The petition further highlighted issues such as disrupted daily life, limited access to justice, and suspension of essential services in the district. It emphasized that maintaining public safety and ensuring the fundamental right to life is the responsibility of the government.

The development reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to stabilise the region and restore normalcy, while the court continues to monitor progress closely.
