Seminary Student Dies After Alleged Torture at Lahore Madrassa, Murder Case Registered

A tragic incident has emerged from Lahore after a 14-year-old seminary student allegedly died due to torture at a madrassa in Lahore Cantonment. Police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident, while the victim’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

According to police officials, the victim, identified as Ali Haider, was a resident of Bahawalnagar and had been studying at a religious seminary in Lahore Cantonment. Authorities said the alleged abuse was not immediately reported to law enforcement. Instead, the family took the injured boy back to Bahawalnagar, where he received private medical treatment for his injuries.

Despite efforts to save his life, Ali Haider later succumbed to his injuries. Following his death, the family contacted Police Helpline 15 and informed authorities about the alleged torture at the madrassa.

After receiving the complaint, Burki police traveled to Bahawalnagar to initiate legal proceedings. Police halted the burial process to fulfill legal requirements and shifted the body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. Officials say the autopsy report will play a crucial role in determining the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

According to SP Cantt Akhtar Nawaz, a murder case has been registered against Qari Ghulam Rasool based on a complaint filed by the deceased boy’s uncle. Police teams have launched raids at multiple locations to arrest the suspect, while investigators continue collecting evidence related to the case.

Authorities said further legal action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination and other evidence gathered during the investigation. The police have assured the victim’s family that the case will be investigated thoroughly and that those found responsible will face legal action.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and welfare of children studying in religious seminaries. Child protection advocates continue to stress the importance of ensuring safe educational environments, effective monitoring, and prompt reporting of abuse allegations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to cooperate with investigators as the inquiry continues.
