Lahore Ranked Among the World’s Safest Major Cities in 2026 Safety Index

Lahore has gained international recognition after being ranked among the world’s safest major cities in the 2026 Numbeo Crime and Safety Index. Pakistan’s cultural capital recorded one of the lowest crime index scores among several globally recognized metropolitan areas, reflecting continued improvements in public safety, law enforcement, and citizens’ confidence.

According to the latest Numbeo 2026 Safety Index, Lahore outperformed several major international cities, including Karachi, New Delhi, Paris, London, Washington, New York, and Mexico City, highlighting its growing reputation as a comparatively secure destination for both residents and visitors.

The report also showed noticeable improvement compared to the previous year. Lahore’s crime index declined from 36.8 in mid-2025 to 36.2 in mid-2026, while its safety index increased from 63.2 to 63.8. A lower crime index indicates fewer concerns about criminal activity, while a higher safety index reflects greater public confidence in personal security.

The positive trend demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to strengthen law and order in the city. Although no major city is entirely free from crime, Lahore’s improved performance places it among the safer urban centers featured in the global ranking.

Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran welcomed the achievement, stating that the improved ranking reflects the Lahore Police’s continued commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining peace.

According to the senior police official, enhanced security measures—including increased police patrols, intelligence-based operations, advanced surveillance technology, and stronger coordination among law enforcement agencies—have significantly contributed to improving public safety. Authorities have also expanded community policing initiatives to encourage greater cooperation between residents and police.

Officials believe that the city’s improved security profile will boost business, tourism, and investment, as a safer environment plays a key role in economic development and improving residents’ quality of life.

The Numbeo Crime and Safety Index is one of the world’s most widely referenced platforms for comparing crime and safety perceptions across cities. The rankings are based on user-contributed surveys that assess perceptions of crime, personal safety during the day and night, concerns about violent and property crimes, and confidence in local law enforcement.

Authorities have pledged to continue improving security through modern policing strategies, technological innovation, and stronger public engagement to further reduce crime and maintain Lahore’s position among the world’s safest major cities.
