Sindh has constituted a third medical board to conduct the exhumation and medico-legal examination of 25-year-old businessman Mir Ali Raza, following concerns over inconsistencies in his initial post-mortem report.
The eight-member board was notified by the Sindh Health Department after two earlier notifications were withdrawn. Police Surgeon Dr Sumaiyya Syed has been appointed as the convener, while DUHS Pathology Department Head Professor Dr Naseem Ahmed will serve as the pathologist.
The exhumation has been scheduled for Saturday, August 8, at 11am, with a civil judge and judicial magistrate also expected to be present during the procedure.
The decision follows a Karachi court order after Mir Ali Raza’s father approached the court seeking further investigation into his son’s death. Questions had previously been raised over certain findings in the original post-mortem report, including the reported bullet trajectory and the absence of gunshot residue testing.
Mir Ali Raza, the owner of food outlet Wafflix, went missing on July 28. His body was found the following day near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-e-Jauhar with a gunshot wound. Police initially registered a kidnapping case following a complaint filed by his father.
Investigators later said Ali had been facing financial difficulties and had contacted friends for financial assistance before his death. According to police, he left his home in PECHS Block-2 and travelled by a ride-hailing taxi before his body was discovered.
The newly constituted medical board will examine the remains and provide additional forensic findings that could help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding Mir Ali Raza’s death.
