Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day today with national spirit, enthusiasm and patriotic fervour as grand festivities are being held across the country. The celebrations began at midnight, with citizens gathering in streets, markets and public places decorated in green and white.
Major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan witnessed large gatherings as people carried national flags and dressed in green and white. Buildings and neighbourhoods were illuminated with green and white lights, while fireworks added to the festive atmosphere.
In Lahore, major fireworks displays were held at Greater Iqbal Park and Liberty Chowk, attracting large crowds of families and young people. Hyderabad also celebrated the occasion with midnight fireworks, while Multan hosted a fireworks display at Ghanta Ghar Chowk organised by the district administration.
The official Independence Day celebrations continued into the morning with special prayers for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, security and stability. Citizens across the country prayed for national unity and the continued development of the country.
In Lahore, Independence Day began with a 21-gun salute, while a similar salute was held at the cantonment in Quetta. Mosques also organised special prayers to mark the national occasion.
Across Pakistan, government institutions, security forces and citizens are participating in ceremonies, rallies and patriotic activities. The celebrations also provide an opportunity for people to remember the sacrifices made during the struggle for the creation of Pakistan.
