Pakistan has rejected allegations by Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities linking Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies to violence in Nuristan province, describing the claims as baseless and unsupported by credible evidence.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the allegations appeared to be unsubstantiated and suggested that they could be intended to divert attention from Afghanistan’s internal security challenges.
The latest dispute comes amid continued tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over cross-border militancy and the activities of armed groups operating in the region.
Taliban authorities had alleged that Daesh-linked fighters entered Nuristan’s Kamdesh district from across the Durand Line with support from Pakistan. According to the claims, Taliban forces killed 28 alleged infiltrators and captured 32 others.
Pakistan has rejected the allegations and said no credible evidence has been presented to establish the involvement of Pakistani security forces or intelligence agencies.
Islamabad has also questioned material circulated online in support of the allegations. Pakistani officials said the material did not independently establish that Pakistan was involved in supporting armed groups operating in Nuristan.
Pakistan had previously rejected similar accusations concerning its alleged involvement in activities in Kamdesh district. Officials said the claims were not supported by verifiable identities, documents, communications or forensic evidence that could independently demonstrate Pakistani involvement.
Islamabad has repeatedly raised concerns about militant groups operating from Afghan territory and has called on the Taliban authorities to prevent Afghan soil from being used for attacks against Pakistan or other countries.
Pakistani officials have also referred to reports by the United Nations and other international organisations regarding the presence and activities of militant groups inside Afghanistan.
The dispute reflects broader security tensions between the two neighbouring countries. Pakistan has consistently called on Afghanistan’s authorities to fulfil commitments concerning militant groups operating from its territory, while Afghan Taliban officials have made counter-allegations regarding Pakistan’s alleged role in regional militant activity.
The latest exchange comes as both countries continue to face security challenges along their shared border, with competing claims and accusations adding to already strained Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
