Pakistan and Turkiye Sign Agreement to Strengthen Anti-Terrorism and Crime Cooperation

Pakistan and Turkiye have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation against terrorism, narcotics trafficking and organised crime. The agreement also provides for the establishment of a Joint Working Group to improve coordination between the interior ministries of both countries.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Çiftçi, at the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Istanbul. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral security cooperation and developing joint initiatives to address cross-border security challenges.
Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration through technical assistance, the exchange of experts and joint initiatives in cyber policing, narcotics control and police training. The cooperation will also involve Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force, National Police Academy and other relevant institutions.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi briefed his Turkish counterpart on the results of Pakistan’s crackdown against networks involved in illegal immigration. According to the report, the Turkish interior minister said the rate of illegal immigration from Pakistan to Turkiye had declined from 70 per cent to 17 per cent and acknowledged Pakistan’s measures.
The two interior ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and improving coordination between their respective institutions. The planned Joint Working Group is intended to provide a framework for continued engagement on security and law enforcement matters.
Naqvi arrived in Istanbul on an official visit to Turkiye, where he received a welcome at the airport before holding talks with Turkish officials. The agreement reflects ongoing efforts by Pakistan and Turkiye to strengthen their partnership in counterterrorism, policing, narcotics control and the prevention of organised crime.
