Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian concluded his one-day official visit to Pakistan by reaffirming Iran’s commitment to regional peace, stronger Pakistan-Iran relations, and the creation of a new regional security architecture based on cooperation and mutual respect.
During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace and diplomacy. He thanked the Pakistani leadership for its honest mediation during the recent regional crisis and called for Muslim nations to unite in the face of common challenges.
The Iranian president emphasized that Pakistan and Iran share deep historical, cultural, and religious ties that should be transformed into stronger economic and strategic partnerships. He said both countries possess enormous potential in trade, energy, border security, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Pezeshkian stressed that lasting peace and sustainable development in the region could only be achieved through sincere dialogue, mutual respect, and regional cooperation. He extended a “hand of friendship” to neighboring countries and proposed the development of a new regional security framework to ensure long-term stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the meeting as highly productive and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran. He stated that Pakistan and Iran have always stood together during difficult times and share each other’s joys and sorrows.
The Prime Minister also announced his upcoming visit to Tehran to express solidarity with the Iranian people and leadership. He praised President Pezeshkian’s leadership and highlighted Pakistan’s role in facilitating diplomatic efforts that contributed to reducing regional tensions.
During the talks, both leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, border management, and regional peace initiatives. They agreed to strengthen diplomatic engagement and open a new chapter in Pakistan-Iran relations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also clarified that Iran’s ballistic missile programme was never discussed or included in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). President Pezeshkian confirmed the statement, stressing that Iran’s missile programme remains a matter of national defense and is not subject to negotiations.
The Iranian president thanked Pakistan for its hospitality and acknowledged the support provided by the Pakistani government during recent diplomatic efforts. He expressed confidence that continued cooperation between the two countries would promote peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.
The visit concluded with a ceremonial farewell at Nur Khan Airbase, attended by senior Pakistani officials, marking another important milestone in the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Iran.
