Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Holds Key Meeting to Finalise Candidates for Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections 2026 by convening a crucial parliamentary board meeting to finalise party candidates.

The high-level session was chaired by party president Nawaz Sharif and attended by top leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The 23-member parliamentary board has been tasked with selecting suitable candidates who will contest the elections on the party’s ticket. The meeting marks a key stage in PML-N’s electoral strategy for Gilgit-Baltistan, highlighting the importance the party is placing on the region.

Senior leaders including Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Khawaja Saad Rafique also participated in the deliberations. Additionally, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, who heads the party in Gilgit-Baltistan, was present at the meeting.

The discussions focused on reviewing potential candidates and finalising names for the upcoming elections. While details of the final selections were not disclosed, the gathering underscored PML-N’s commitment to strengthening its political presence in Gilgit-Baltistan.

As political activity intensifies ahead of the 2026 elections, parties across Pakistan are beginning to organise their internal processes. PML-N’s parliamentary board meeting reflects an early move to streamline candidate selection and prepare for the electoral contest in the strategically important region.
