President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of additional judges to several high courts across Pakistan as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s judicial system and fill vacant positions.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the president approved appointments involving the Lahore High Court, Sindh High Court and Peshawar High Court, along with appointments to the Islamabad High Court and Balochistan High Court. Some judges already serving in an additional capacity have also been confirmed.
In a separate decision, President Zardari approved measures aimed at bringing the salaries, allowances and pension benefits of Supreme Court judges in line with those available to judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
The president also approved amendments to the 1997 order governing leave, pension and other benefits for high court judges. The changes are intended to update the existing framework for judicial privileges and post-retirement benefits.
The Presidency further announced the appointment of Haroon Akhtar as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production. His appointment comes as the government continues to focus on investment, industrial development, manufacturing and economic growth.
The latest judicial appointments and reforms are expected to contribute to the functioning of Pakistan’s higher judiciary while addressing issues related to vacant positions and judicial benefits.
