Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have intensified their political efforts to remove Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab through a no-confidence motion. The development comes after a high-level meeting between PTI Sindh leadership and JI Karachi officials at Idara Noor-i-Haq, where both parties discussed their joint strategy and numerical strength in the City Council.
The PTI delegation was led by Haleem Adil Sheikh, while JI was represented by Monem Zafar Khan and opposition leader Saifuddin Advocate. Leaders from both sides expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current mayor’s performance, calling his election controversial and his governance ineffective.
They highlighted several ongoing issues in Karachi, including water shortages, poor sanitation, traffic mismanagement, and weak municipal administration. According to the opposition leaders, these problems have worsened under the current leadership, creating serious challenges for residents of the city.
Both PTI and JI emphasized that their objective is to improve governance and address Karachi’s long-standing civic issues. They believe that a leadership change is necessary to bring development back on track.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed their current position in the City Council and discussed strategies to secure support from other political groups. They showed confidence in achieving the required numbers to successfully move the no-confidence motion.
This growing coordination between PTI and JI signals a significant political shift in Karachi’s local government. The move could have a major impact on the city’s leadership and future governance if the motion succeeds.
