LAHORE: Police investigating the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdullah Tahir have uncovered new evidence suggesting that the killing was carefully planned using a honey-trap operation and drone surveillance to monitor the victim’s movements before the attack.
According to police sources, investigators believe the suspects relied on both digital communication and modern surveillance technology to track Abdullah Tahir’s routine and confirm his location before carrying out the assassination in Lahore’s Gulberg area.
The investigation revealed that a female suspect allegedly established contact with Abdullah Tahir’s driver through a social media application several days before the incident. Police believe she gradually gained the driver’s trust and obtained information regarding the PTI leader’s daily schedule, travel routes, and routine movements.
Investigators further stated that on the day of the murder, after the driver had dropped Abdullah Tahir at his clinic, a video call took place between the driver and the female suspect. Police suspect the call was used to confirm the victim’s exact location in real time, allowing the attackers to proceed with their plan.
Authorities have also discovered evidence indicating that drone cameras were allegedly used to monitor the clinic and surrounding area before the attack. Investigators believe the drone helped the suspects observe security arrangements, identify entry and exit routes, and monitor movement around the premises before the shooting.
Police are examining mobile phone records, chat histories, call logs, and other digital evidence recovered during the investigation. Officials say these materials have helped investigators establish a timeline of events and identify possible links between the suspects.
The female suspect remains under investigation, while law enforcement agencies continue efforts to trace other individuals believed to have participated in planning and executing the attack. Authorities say all available evidence is being examined to identify the masterminds behind the murder.
The killing of Abdullah Tahir has generated widespread political attention, with PTI leaders demanding a transparent investigation and swift action against those responsible. Police, however, have stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that all possible motives are being examined before any final conclusions are reached.
Officials have assured that every lead will be pursued through forensic analysis, digital evidence, and witness statements to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The case has also raised concerns about the growing use of technology, including drone surveillance and online communication, in the planning of serious crimes.
