Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have expressed support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s ongoing sit-in and called for the release of political prisoners, including PTI founder Imran Khan.
A letter signed by senior PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sarfraz Cheema, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry and Mahmood-ur-Rasheed was read out during the Jamaat-e-Islami protest. The leaders, who are detained at Kot Lakhpat Jail, urged the public to participate in the sit-in and raise their voices on political and public issues.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore has also demanded the release of political prisoners and called for political disputes to be resolved through democratic and legal means. The party has specifically sought the release of Imran Khan.
The support expressed by the detained PTI leaders adds another political dimension to the ongoing Jamaat-e-Islami protest, as both sides have highlighted the issue of political prisoners and the need for democratic engagement.
