LAHORE: Punjab University has recorded a significant rise in undergraduate admissions for 2026, receiving more than 25,000 additional finalized applications compared to the previous year. The university has also introduced an AI-powered chatbot to improve the admissions process and provide instant assistance to prospective students.
According to a university spokesperson, Punjab University received 147,909 undergraduate applications, of which 113,182 were successfully finalized. During the first phase of admissions in 2025, the university had received 120,395 applications, with 87,831 completed, highlighting a substantial year-on-year increase in student interest.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali said the record growth in applications reflects the confidence students and their families have in Punjab University’s academic standards and educational environment. He added that the institution continues to attract students from across the country because of its reputation for quality education and research opportunities.
The vice chancellor emphasized that the university remains committed to providing students with an environment that supports academic excellence, innovation, research, extracurricular activities, and professional development. He said Punjab University aims to prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values needed to contribute positively to society and the national economy.
To further improve the admission experience, Punjab University has introduced its first AI-powered chatbot. The virtual assistant is designed to provide applicants with quick answers to admission-related queries, guidance on entry tests, application procedures, deadlines, and other important information throughout the admission process.
University officials believe the AI chatbot will reduce response times, improve accessibility to information, and make the admissions process more efficient for thousands of applicants. The initiative also reflects the university’s growing focus on digital transformation and the adoption of modern technologies in student services.
The record increase in applications, combined with the launch of AI-powered support services, highlights Punjab University’s continued efforts to enhance higher education accessibility and strengthen its position as one of Pakistan’s leading public universities.
