Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated “Marka-e-Haq Square” in Rawalpindi, marking a significant milestone in the Signal-Free Rawalpindi project. The large-scale infrastructure initiative has successfully completed five underpasses, two overhead bridges, and a pedestrian bridge in just 179 days, beating the original 190-day deadline.
This project is being described as one of Pakistan’s most unique urban development initiatives aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving mobility in one of the city’s busiest areas. The newly named Marka-e-Haq Square, located between Kutchery Chowk and Rekhi Din, stands as a symbol of rapid development and efficient execution.
During her visit, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inspected the signal-free corridor, reviewed the overhead bridges, and assessed the adjoining road network. Officials briefed her that the project will allow over 200,000 vehicles to pass daily, significantly improving traffic flow and reducing travel time for commuters.
The project also features Rawalpindi’s first modern pedestrian bridge, enhancing safety and accessibility for citizens. Authorities further shared that two phases of the Rawat-to-Motorway signal-free corridor have already been completed, while the third phase is nearing completion.
As part of the broader development plan, additional underpasses will be constructed at key locations including Race Course, Chairing Cross, and AFIC Chowk. The full corridor will span approximately 25 kilometres, connecting Rawat to the motorway with a total of nine underpasses and three flyovers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Maryam Nawaz stated that the project will transform Rawalpindi’s urban culture and bring lasting improvements to daily commuting.
In a separate message on International Mother’s Day, she paid tribute to mothers worldwide, acknowledging their sacrifices, strength, and unconditional love. She also honored mothers of martyrs and working women who strive tirelessly for their families, calling mothers the foundation of society.
