The preliminary post-mortem report of two women who died while in police custody at Lahore’s Town Ship Police Station has been released, providing initial findings into the mysterious deaths.
The women, identified as Anmol and Amina, were reportedly taken into custody over allegations of fraud and deception. Both died on August 4 while being held at the police station.
According to the preliminary examination, no visible signs of physical torture were found on either body. However, multiple needle or syringe marks were reportedly observed, while police have claimed that the women may have consumed poisonous tablets during their time in custody.
Samples collected from the bodies have been sent to a forensic laboratory. Authorities say the final cause of death will only be established after the forensic examination is completed.
The case has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the women’s deaths. Videos obtained during the investigation are also being examined, including footage reportedly showing the women inside the police station shortly before their deaths.
Police have said that the women were arrested following allegations of fraud, while a video allegedly showing them removing earrings from an elderly woman has also emerged as part of the investigation.
Despite the preliminary report finding no visible signs of physical torture, authorities have not yet reached a definitive conclusion regarding the cause of death. Investigators are awaiting forensic results to determine whether any poisonous substance or medication was present in the bodies and to establish what happened while the women were in custody.
