Police Declare Zain Shah Killing a Mob Lynching Case, Anti-Terrorism Charges Added
RAWALPINDI – Police have officially classified the killing of Zain Shah in Rawalpindi as a mob lynching case and expanded the investigation by adding provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act to the First Information Report (FIR). The development marks a significant escalation in the legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile incident.
According to police officials, Section 11-WW of the Anti-Terrorism Act has been incorporated into the case following further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. Authorities believe the available evidence indicates that the incident involved coordinated actions by multiple individuals, leading investigators to pursue more serious legal charges.
Following the inclusion of anti-terrorism provisions, police arrested six suspects allegedly linked to the case. The arrested individuals were identified as Amjad Khan, Shah Hussain, Abdul Basit, Hamza Khan, Noman Khan, and Sohail Mahmood.
The suspects were presented before an anti-terrorism court, which approved a 10-day physical remand for police investigators. Law enforcement officials stated that the remand period will allow investigators to conduct detailed questioning and gather additional evidence related to the case.
According to investigators, police intend to use the remand period to identify any additional individuals who may have been involved in the incident. Authorities are also examining the alleged planning of the attack and investigating the motorcycle reportedly used during the kidnapping of Zain Shah.
The case stems from a violent incident that occurred on May 8 in the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Town area, located within the jurisdiction of Dhamial Police Station in Rawalpindi. Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the dispute originated from a financial disagreement involving an amount of approximately Rs1,300.
Police stated that Siraj Mehsud allegedly visited Zain Shah’s residence along with several associates to discuss the matter. During the encounter, an argument reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation that led to an exchange of gunfire. According to investigators, Siraj Mehsud was killed during the incident.
Following Mehsud’s death, police allege that some of his relatives and associates gathered a group of individuals and launched a retaliatory attack against Zain Shah. Investigators claim that the group subjected him to severe violence before ultimately killing him.
Law enforcement authorities have described the incident as a serious case of mob violence and are continuing efforts to determine the full sequence of events. Investigators are collecting witness statements, forensic evidence, and other relevant information to strengthen the case and identify all those allegedly involved.
The addition of anti-terrorism charges indicates that authorities view the incident as extending beyond a conventional criminal dispute. Legal experts note that cases involving organized violence, public intimidation, or collective attacks may fall under anti-terrorism provisions depending on the nature of the offense and available evidence.
