Strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall swept through several cities in Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), leaving a trail of destruction, causing power outages, and claiming multiple lives. The severe weather disrupted normal life and triggered emergency responses in the affected regions.
According to initial reports, at least five people, including a woman, lost their lives in separate weather-related incidents, while around 45 others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals where they received medical treatment.
The worst-hit areas included Lahore, Kasur, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Chichawatni, and Pakpattan. Powerful windstorms followed by heavy rain uprooted trees, damaged buildings, and created hazardous conditions on roads, resulting in several accidents and disruptions to daily activities.
In Lahore, the storm damaged electricity infrastructure within the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region, leading to prolonged power outages in multiple neighborhoods. Technical teams were deployed to restore electricity, but residents faced significant inconvenience due to disrupted power supply.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bannu witnessed several storm-related accidents that claimed four lives and injured 16 people. Rescue officials quickly responded to emergencies and shifted the victims to medical facilities for treatment.
Dera Ismail Khan also experienced torrential rainfall and strong winds that uprooted trees and damaged electricity poles. The collapse of several poles caused feeders to trip, disrupting power supply in numerous areas. At least four individuals suffered injuries in separate incidents linked to the extreme weather.
Meanwhile, Lower South Waziristan’s Birmal Tehsil received rain accompanied by hailstorms. Residents expressed concerns over potential damage to crops, homes, and property due to the sudden weather change.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant during unstable weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from trees, weak structures, and electricity poles. The latest spell of severe weather serves as a reminder of the growing need for preparedness and public awareness to minimize the impact of natural disasters.
