Gwadar Port’s global importance has significantly increased due to recent regional developments, according to Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) President Haji Muhammad Ayub Miryani. He emphasized the need for immediate measures to capitalize on emerging trade opportunities in Balochistan and beyond.

Speaking at a business meeting held in Islamabad, Mr Miryani highlighted Gwadar’s strategic position as a key trade hub connecting Pakistan with the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, and other regional markets. The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal.

The QCCI president proposed several initiatives aimed at enhancing trade activity through Gwadar Port. These include launching a ferry service to facilitate both domestic and international trade, as well as extending the operating hours of the N-250 Ramdan-Gwadar business corridor from 18 hours to 24 hours to ensure uninterrupted commercial operations.

He further suggested granting Gwadar TIR membership to streamline international trade transport. Additionally, he recommended allowing Afghan transit trade and providing transshipment facilities for Iranian investors to strengthen economic connectivity in the region.

According to QCCI, several international companies have already expressed interest in using Gwadar Port for trade, reflecting its growing importance in global commerce. The chamber believes that timely policy decisions and infrastructure improvements are essential to fully utilize Gwadar’s potential.

The proposals also aim to enhance logistics, regulatory frameworks, and operational efficiency, positioning Gwadar as a major regional trade gateway. Experts note that with proper implementation, Gwadar Port could play a vital role in boosting Pakistan’s economy and strengthening regional integration.

Overall, the development highlights Gwadar’s emerging role as a strategic economic hub, with increasing relevance in regional trade dynamics and international connectivity.
