A prolonged lockdown continues to affect residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as authorities maintain strict security measures amid uncertainty over the next round of US–Iran talks.
Key areas, particularly around Nur Khan Airbase, remain sealed for the fifth consecutive day, with roads, markets, and banking services shut down. Residents in localities such as Shah Faisal Colony, Khalid Colony, and Gulzar-e-Quaid are facing severe restrictions, limiting their mobility and access to essential services.
Public transportation, including the Metro Bus Service and electric buses, has been suspended, while goods transport has also been halted, disrupting supply chains. This has led to shortages of food, fuel, and water, causing increasing hardship for citizens.
Despite heightened security, electricity outages have continued in several areas, raising concerns about the effectiveness of surveillance and safety systems. Residents have also reported difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities and examination centres.
The lockdown was initially imposed in anticipation of foreign delegations linked to the expected US–Iran negotiations. However, uncertainty surrounding the talks has delayed any decision on lifting restrictions.
Officials say backchannel diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but no clear timeline has been provided for reopening the affected areas. As a result, daily life remains disrupted, with residents waiting for relief as the situation continues.
