Police in Karachi arrested eight members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in multiple short-term kidnapping incidents across different parts of the city. According to investigators, the suspects targeted citizens for ransom and carried out operations while posing as law enforcement officials.
Authorities revealed that a serving inspector from the Excise Department was also allegedly involved in the gang’s criminal activities. Police officials said the suspects used official-style uniforms and vehicles to gain the trust of victims and avoid suspicion during abductions.
During intelligence-based raids, law enforcement agencies recovered weapons and a vehicle allegedly used by the gang during kidnapping operations. Officials stated that the suspects had remained active in several Karachi neighborhoods and were reportedly planning additional criminal activities before their arrest.
Police confirmed that cases had been registered against all eight suspects, while further investigations are continuing to identify other possible accomplices connected to the gang. Investigators are also examining links between the suspects and previous kidnapping complaints reported in the city.
Senior police officers said the arrests followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Authorities tracked the gang through digital evidence, witness statements and information obtained from earlier kidnapping investigations.
Law enforcement officials assured citizens that security measures would be strengthened in sensitive areas of Karachi to prevent similar incidents in the future. Police also urged residents to immediately report suspicious activities and warned that strict action would continue against individuals misusing police uniforms or official authority for criminal purposes.
The incident has once again raised concerns about organised crime and the misuse of law enforcement identities in urban areas, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring and security operations across Karachi.
