The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case has decided to obtain written responses from senior police officers instead of summoning them for questioning.
The decision was outlined in an order issued by the commission following its latest proceedings. During the hearing, the commission recorded the statement of former investigating officer Shabbir Laghari and also heard the position of Ahmed, a business partner of Mir Raza.
Ahmed requested additional time to meet and speak with Mir Raza’s family before providing any further statement. The commission allowed the request and said that if Ahmed wished to provide additional information after meeting the family, he could submit his position through an affidavit.
According to the commission’s order, any additional statement submitted by Ahmed through an affidavit would also be made available to the public.
The commission also received sealed daily police station diaries, commonly known as roznamchas, from Ferozabad and Gulistan-e-Johar police stations. These records were submitted as part of the proceedings concerning the case.
The order noted that statements from witnesses regarding the police diaries had already been recorded before the documents were submitted to the commission. After reviewing the submitted material, the sealed diaries were returned to the Sindh government’s focal person in the same condition in which they had been received.
The judicial commission also acknowledged the cooperation provided by the chief executive officer and divisional head of a private bank during the proceedings.
The latest proceedings form part of the commission’s continuing examination of the Mir Raza case. The decision to seek written responses from senior police officers allows the commission to obtain their positions and relevant information without requiring them to appear for direct questioning at this stage.
The commission is continuing to review statements, official records and other material connected with the case as it works to establish the relevant facts surrounding the matter.
