Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi met opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas to discuss preparations for the planned September 27 march and the opposition’s broader political strategy.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the participants discussed the political situation in the country, developments in Punjab and preparations for the upcoming march. Afridi also briefed the opposition leaders about the ongoing street movement in Punjab and measures taken by the Punjab government against political workers, according to the statement.
The meeting brought together key figures associated with the opposition alliance. Mahmood Khan Achakzai is the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, while Allama Nasir Abbas serves as Opposition Leader in the Senate. Other officials and representatives, including KP Information Minister Shafi Jan and the TTAP spokesperson, also attended the meeting.
The leaders discussed the September 27 march and its proposed character. According to reports on the meeting, the participants said the march would be peaceful, constitutional and democratic. They also discussed future political and democratic strategies and the need for coordination among opposition groups.
The participants also expressed concerns about actions taken against political workers in Punjab. These characterisations reflect the position expressed by the opposition leaders and should be understood in that political context.
The September 27 march has been announced as a planned mobilisation towards Islamabad. Earlier, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said PTI leadership and the Tehreek Tahaffuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) alliance were on board with the September 27 date.
The latest meeting indicates that preparations and consultations among opposition figures are continuing ahead of the planned march. The participants are expected to continue discussions on their political strategy and coordination in the days leading up to September 27.
