Nawaz Sharif Summons PML-N Ticket Aspirants For AJK Elections

Nawaz Sharif has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket aspirants to Lahore as the party begins formal scrutiny for the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to party sources, more than 205 aspirants from 33 constituencies in AJK, along with candidates for 12 refugee seats reserved in Pakistan, have applied for party tickets. All applicants have been directed to appear before the party’s parliamentary board at the PML-N Model Town office.

The parliamentary board, headed by Nawaz Sharif, is scheduled to hold its first formal meeting before meeting the aspirants. The board was constituted earlier to evaluate applications and finalize candidates for the elections expected in July.

Key members of the board include Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, and Maryam Nawaz, along with several senior federal ministers and party leaders.

The board also includes prominent figures such as Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Hamza Shehbaz, and Marriyum Aurangzeb, as well as key representatives from AJK leadership, including Shah Ghulam Qadir and former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider.

Earlier, a political committee formed under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had conducted consultations with potential candidates across AJK and among Kashmiri refugees in Pakistan. These consultations helped shortlist and assess candidates before the final scrutiny phase.

With the elections approaching, the parliamentary board is now set to play a crucial role in selecting candidates who will represent PML-N in the upcoming AJK polls.

The development marks a significant step in the party’s election preparations, as it aims to finalize strong candidates for the highly anticipated regional elections.
