GUJRAT: Newborn twin babies were reportedly found abandoned inside a shopping bag in the Madina Syedan area of Gujrat, prompting police and child protection authorities to launch an investigation.
According to rescue officials, a newborn boy and girl were discovered after allegedly being left inside a shopping bag within the jurisdiction of Sadar Gujrat Police Station.
The infants were rescued and subsequently handed over to Child Protection Gujranwala for care and protection. Doctors who examined the babies said both newborns were in good health.
Police have reportedly traced the woman believed to be the mother of the twins. She is currently in police custody while receiving treatment at a hospital.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. Police sources have suggested that the incident may have been linked to family circumstances after the woman’s husband allegedly contracted another marriage.
However, the reported motive remains part of the preliminary investigation and has not been established as a final finding. Investigators are expected to collect further evidence to determine exactly what led to the abandonment and whether any other individuals were involved.
The newborn twins are currently under the care of child protection authorities, who are responsible for ensuring their safety and welfare.
The incident has raised concerns about the protection of vulnerable newborns and the importance of timely intervention by rescue and child protection services.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered and findings of the ongoing inquiry.
