The Pakistan Army has reportedly destroyed several Afghan Taliban check posts in a retaliatory operation following cross-border shelling in Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, that left one person dead and five members of the same family injured. The incident has raised fresh concerns about civilian safety in communities along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour, who shared details on social media platform X, Afghan Taliban forces targeted residential areas in Angoor Adda. She said a shell struck a house, causing the reported casualties. Citing security sources, Bilour added that Pakistani forces responded by destroying several Afghan check posts.
South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner also reported on X that Afghan Taliban forces had opened fire on civilian houses. The firing reportedly damaged several shops in the area, raising concerns about the impact of cross-border hostilities on residents and local businesses.
The reported military response comes amid continuing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier. Pakistani authorities have said that their troops remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to further incidents. The extent of the damage to the reported check posts and the circumstances surrounding the latest exchange have not been independently established in the information provided.
Earlier operations have also contributed to tensions between Islamabad and Kabul. In September, Pakistani officials reported carrying out airstrikes against alleged militant hideouts near the Afghan border, while ground operations on September 21 reportedly targeted militant positions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said three locations were destroyed and 28 militants were killed during the reported strikes.
On September 24, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Pakistani forces had conducted precision air and drone strikes at 10 locations in Afghanistan. He described the operation as a response to drones launched from Afghan territory that allegedly entered Pakistani airspace. These claims form part of Pakistan’s stated security concerns, while the Afghan Taliban administration has rejected allegations that it allows militant groups to use Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have remained strained amid repeated border clashes and accusations concerning militant activity. The launch of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq following renewed clashes further intensified the situation. The latest incident in Angoor Adda highlights the risks faced by civilians living near the frontier, where exchanges of fire can cause casualties, damage homes and disrupt local businesses.
