Pakistan Condemns Closure of Srinagar Jamia Masjid on Last Friday of Ramadan

The government of Pakistan has strongly condemned the closure of Jamia Masjid Srinagar on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, calling the move a violation of religious freedom and fundamental human rights.

In an official statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed serious concern over reports that authorities prevented Muslims from offering congregational prayers at the historic mosque in Srinagar.

The ministry described the action as deeply troubling, emphasizing that Jamia Masjid Srinagar is one of the most important religious centers for Muslims in the region.

According to reports, security forces sealed the gates of the mosque early on Friday morning, preventing worshippers from entering the premises and offering prayers on one of the most significant days of Ramadan.

The last Friday of Ramadan holds great religious importance for Muslims, as thousands of worshippers traditionally gather at the mosque to perform congregational prayers.

Many people travel from different towns and villages across the Kashmir valley to participate in these prayers each year.

Pakistan stated that denying worshippers access to the mosque during such an important religious occasion undermines the basic right to practice religion and raises serious concerns regarding religious freedom in the region.

Officials also pointed out that this is not the first time the mosque has been closed during Ramadan, noting that similar restrictions have reportedly been imposed in recent years following political developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office urged the international community to take notice of the situation and called on global organizations, including the United Nations and human rights groups, to ensure that religious freedoms are respected.

Pakistan reiterated its stance that people in the region should be allowed to practice their faith freely without restrictions or interference.
