Thunderstorms to Hit Pakistan as PMD Issues Nationwide Weather Alert

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds across multiple regions of Pakistan starting from May 2.

According to the Met Office, a fresh westerly weather system is expected to enter the northwestern parts of the country and will remain active until May 5. This system is likely to bring significant weather changes, including a drop in temperatures following the recent heatwave.

The provinces expected to be most affected include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where heavy rainfall, dust storms, and hailstorms are forecast in areas such as Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Peshawar, Mardan, and surrounding districts.

In Punjab and Islamabad, cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala may experience strong winds, rain, and isolated hailstorms between May 2 and May 4. Southern Punjab regions like Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan are also expected to receive rainfall and dust storms.

Weather conditions in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are likely to include thunderstorms and heavy rain, raising concerns about landslides in mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, parts of Balochistan such as Quetta and Zhob are also expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds, while upper Sindh may face dust storms.

The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides in vulnerable northern regions, especially on May 3 and May 4. Authorities have advised citizens to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and follow official updates.

This weather system is expected to bring relief from the ongoing heat but may also pose risks due to severe weather conditions across the country.
