PMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms and Hailstorms Across Pakistan from June 11–13

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting dust storms, windstorms, and rain-thunderstorms across several parts of Pakistan from June 11 to June 13. According to the Met Office, a western disturbance is expected to enter the upper regions of the country on June 11 and remain active until June 13, while moist currents from the Arabian Sea will enhance weather activity in central and northern areas.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and numerous districts of Punjab are likely to experience scattered rain-thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and dust storms. Areas including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and several others are expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, regions such as Swat, Dir, Chitral, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan are also expected to witness rain-thunderstorms and gusty winds. Similar weather conditions are forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, and Astore.

The PMD has warned of isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms in vulnerable areas, which could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. There is also a risk of flash floods and landslides in hilly regions of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities have advised farmers to take precautionary measures to protect crops, while tourists and travellers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. The public is also advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and remain cautious to minimise risks associated with strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall.
