The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in several regions of Pakistan over the coming days while warning that severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue across most major cities.
According to the latest advisory issued by the Met Office, temperatures in many parts of Punjab are likely to remain significantly above seasonal averages. The department said hot and dry weather would dominate across most districts, although isolated rain and thunderstorm activity is expected in several cities.
Areas likely to receive rain and thunderstorms include:
- Lahore
- Hafizabad
- Sheikhupura
- Gujranwala
- Gujrat
- Sialkot
- Narowal
In Islamabad and nearby areas, weather conditions are expected to remain extremely hot during daytime hours. However, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain are likely during the night, potentially bringing temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to experience mainly hot and dry weather, especially in southern districts where temperatures are likely to remain very high. Despite this, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast in:
- Chitral
- Swat
- Abbottabad
- Peshawar
- Malakand Division
Meanwhile, Sindh remains under the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to stay exceptionally high in most districts. Weather experts warned that prolonged exposure to heat and humidity could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly in densely populated urban centres.
The Met Office stated that most areas of Balochistan are likely to continue experiencing hot and dry weather with minimal chances of rainfall during the forecast period.
Meteorologists have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take special care of children, elderly people and individuals with existing medical conditions.
Health experts have also warned that extreme temperatures may lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke if safety precautions are ignored.
Authorities continue to urge residents to stay updated through official weather advisories as weather conditions may change rapidly in different regions of the country.
