President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed the need for stronger efforts to protect public health from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine products, describing the issue as a major challenge for society.

In a message issued on World No Tobacco Day, President Zardari said safeguarding young people from nicotine addiction is a national responsibility. He emphasized that tobacco use continues to pose serious health risks and called for greater awareness to prevent future generations from falling victim to addiction.

The president also expressed concern over the increasing popularity of e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and nicotine pouches. He warned that these products are often perceived as safer alternatives, but they can still expose users to nicotine dependence and other health risks, particularly among teenagers and young adults.

Highlighting the health consequences of tobacco consumption, Zardari noted that smoking remains a leading cause of heart disease, lung disorders, and several forms of cancer. He urged citizens to recognize the long-term dangers associated with tobacco and nicotine use and to make healthier lifestyle choices.

The president further called on parents, teachers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to play an active role in public awareness campaigns. He said collective action and education are essential to reducing tobacco use and creating a healthier future for the nation.
