Punjab Approves Rs50,000 Fine For Dumping Animal Waste During Eid

Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs50,000 fine for individuals found dumping animal waste and sacrificial remains in streets, neighbourhoods, and prohibited public places during Eid ul Adha across Punjab.

The decision was made during a video-link meeting chaired by the Punjab chief minister to finalise comprehensive cleanliness and sanitation arrangements for Eid ul Adha throughout the province.

During the meeting, Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq and Secretary Local Government Mian Shakeel Ahmad briefed the chief minister on the province-wide Eid cleanliness operation.

Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to establish special vigilance squads to monitor and prevent the dumping of animal waste at banned locations. She also ordered a large-scale public awareness campaign to educate citizens about proper disposal methods and cleanliness during Eid celebrations.

The chief minister instructed officials to ensure special cleaning arrangements for drains, canals, public spaces, commercial markets, railway colonies, cantonment areas and private housing societies throughout Punjab.

According to the official briefing, special cleaning operations will be conducted in 2,687 major commercial markets across the province, while additional sanitation work will be carried out on highways, intersections and busy public areas on Chand Raat.

Authorities will also distribute biodegradable shopping bags for the proper disposal of animal remains and garbage during Eid ul Adha.

As part of the “Suthra Punjab” campaign, more than 176,000 sanitary workers and over 8,000 temporary staff members will participate in the province-wide cleaning operation. Additionally, over 40,000 vehicles, including loader rickshaws, mini dumpers, tractor trolleys and pickups, will be deployed to manage waste collection and disposal.

Officials further revealed that 3,800 primary collection centres, 3,100 designated dumping sites and approximately 7,000 dumping points would be established throughout Punjab for Eid waste management.

The chief minister also directed authorities to clear all dumping sites and collection points by the third day of Eid ul Adha.

Special cleaning arrangements will also be made at 1,200 collective sacrifice locations and 285 cattle markets across Punjab. Suthra Punjab teams will remain active before Eid, during the three days of Eid and afterward to maintain cleanliness standards.

In addition, the Punjab government announced the setup of 4,500 special camps and multiple control rooms in deputy commissioner offices, WASA offices and municipal corporations to monitor complaints and coordinate sanitation activities.

Citizens can report cleanliness-related complaints through the Suthra Punjab helpline 1139.

The announcement reflects the Punjab government’s efforts to improve sanitation standards, maintain public hygiene and ensure cleaner cities during Eid ul Adha celebrations.
