Punjab Schools Open Today as Fake Holiday Notification Debunked

All public and private schools, colleges and universities across Punjab are scheduled to operate as usual on Monday, October 12, after education authorities dismissed a fake notification circulating on social media that claimed educational institutions would remain closed across the province.
The Punjab School Education Department clarified that no decision had been made to announce a province-wide holiday. The Punjab Higher Education Department also rejected a false notice claiming that public and private colleges and universities would be closed. Students, parents and teachers have been advised to rely on official announcements rather than unverified social media posts.
Meanwhile, the situation is different in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where authorities have announced closures in several areas amid security concerns. In Peshawar, all public and private educational institutions are scheduled to remain closed on Monday, according to an official announcement issued on Sunday.
In Malakand, schools and colleges have reportedly been ordered to close for two days. The Lower Dir district administration has also announced the closure of public and private schools, colleges and universities on October 12 and 13.
Examination schedules have also been affected in parts of KP. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Bannu postponed all Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual-II examination papers scheduled for Monday until further notice. The BISE Malakand also announced the postponement of its SSC Annual-II 2026 examinations until further orders.
The contrasting announcements mean students and parents should check the instructions issued by their own education departments, district administrations and examination boards. While educational institutions across Punjab are expected to follow their normal schedules, closures and examination postponements apply in the specified KP areas according to the announcements described in the report.
