Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role in ongoing regional tensions involving Iran and the United States, suggesting that the country’s leadership deserves international recognition for its mediation efforts.
Speaking during a television programme, Ritter highlighted Pakistan’s central role in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington amid a complex and sensitive geopolitical situation. He described Pakistan as uniquely positioned to help move the crisis toward a peaceful resolution.
“I want to commend Pakistan for the leadership that it has played in this,” Ritter said, emphasizing that Islamabad’s involvement has been critical in efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
In a notable remark, Ritter suggested that Pakistan’s leadership could be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize due to its role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy. He described Pakistan as “the only game in town” capable of helping achieve a final settlement between the two sides.
Ritter also urged the international community to extend economic and political support to Pakistan, recognizing the country’s efforts in navigating a challenging diplomatic environment.
Pakistan has recently been engaged in mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, aiming to de-escalate tensions and encourage negotiations. Analysts have noted that such diplomatic initiatives enhance Pakistan’s role on the global stage and strengthen its position as a facilitator of peace.
Scott Ritter, who previously served as a UN weapons inspector and a US Marine Corps intelligence officer, frequently comments on international security and foreign policy issues. His latest remarks have drawn attention to Pakistan’s growing diplomatic influence in regional and global affairs.
The comments come at a time when diplomatic engagement is seen as crucial for stability in the Middle East, with Pakistan playing an increasingly active role in fostering dialogue and peaceful solutions.
